Ministry of Health Activates its Emergency Operations Centre (MOH-EOC)
Port-of-Spain, 24th August 2018: In the aftermath of the earthquake that occurred on Tuesday 21st August, 2018 the Ministry of Health (MoH) activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) led by Dr. Vishwanath Andy Partapsingh, Chief Medical Officer (Ag.) at 6.07pm. Utilising the internationally standardised Incident Command System, the MoH EOC worked throughout the night and coordinated with the Regional Health Authorities to ensure that health services remained responsive to the needs of the population.
As at Friday 24th August, 2018, the NWRHA supported by the Ministry of Health and the NCRHA relocated all patients housed at the Central Block, POSGH, to other wards within the Port of Spain General Hospital, Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and Caura Chest Hospital. This activity was conducted in a manner that ensured respect for patients and maintained optimal quality of care. The Ministry wishes to assure that these patients continue to have access to the required health personnel, medication, medical technology and support services.
The Ministry thanks its staff, the management and staff of the NWRHA, NCRHA, the Ministry of National Security, patients and the public for their support and understanding during this time. We remain resilient and are committed to ensuring the health and safety of all patients and staff, and devoted to providing premium health services to the nation.
