Neurosurgery Equipment Donated for use in the Nation's Hospitals
Tuesday, September 18, 2018

Port of Spain, 17th September, 2018:
Over 1 million TTD in neurosurgical equipment has been donated for use in the public health sector by the People’s Republic of China.  The donation agreement was signed during a courtesy call by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Song Yumin, to Minister of Health, the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, today, Monday September 17th, 2018.
The donation is part of a Memorandum of Understanding which was signed during the official visit of Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley to the People’s Republic of China on May 14, 2018, to strengthen cooperation in the field of medicine and health.
Through the MOU, a specialist medical team from the Beijing Tiantan Hospital (the leading neurosurgical medical institute in China) will perform much needed neurosurgeries for locals.
The MOU will also provide suitably qualified Medical Practitioners from Trinidad and Tobago with the opportunity to train as Neurosurgery Specialists in China, during the three year period of validity of the MOU.
The first batch of doctors arrived on September 3rd, 2018 and have already begun meeting with representatives at the various Regional Health Authorities to pave the way for the surgeries to begin.
