Activities: PAVI offers a rehabilitation programme with communication, daily living, social recreational and vocational skills. Ongoing training of Rehabilitation Field Officers to improve the delivery of our rehabilitation service, continuing organizing outreach seminars throughout Trinidad & Tobago, establishment of Community Social Groups, establishment of a voluntary programme to assist in the rehabilitation process, provision of white canes. Braille slates and other technical aids for communication at an affordable cost. Lobbying for employment of person with visual impairment. Assisting young graduates who are visually impaired through the process to attain their career goals. Fund-raising, public education, awareness seminars, a transcription service to the public and production of low cost spectacles.

Activities: The objectives of the T&TABVI are to prevent blindness, to promote public awareness in the community, to promote independence and integration, and to act as a resource centre. The T&TABVI offers a wide variety of programmes, such as counselling, rehabilitation (daily living skills, mobility and orientation programme, social skills, communication skills), vocational counselling. Other services include welfare services, leisure activities, blindness prevention, socialization programmes, library services, transcription services, school for the blind children, programmes for the elderly, workshops for the blind.

National Library and Information System Authority of Trinidad and Tobago

The National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) manages all libraries in the public sector, including public, special and school libraries. The departments listed below are located in the National Library Building. For visually impaired persons, the assistive technology software, JAWS (Job Access With Speech) is available. This software is used in conjunction with Microsoft programmes such as Word and Excel. Basically, a computer-generated voice synthesizer reads back to the user whatever he/she has typed. The JAWS facility is located both in the Children's library on the ground, and the Adult library on the first floor. Books in large-print, braille, and audio format are also available for the visually impaired. website
