Occupational Therapist

Occupational therapists provide skilled treatment that helps individuals of all ages achieve and maintain the lifestyle they aspire to and engage in occupations of their choice. A wide variety of people can benefit from occupational therapy including those with work-related injuries including repetitive stress and acute injuries, limitations following stroke or heart attack, chronic conditions such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, birth injuries, learning problems or developmental delays, mental health problems such as schizophrenia or dementia, substance misuse or eating disorders, burns, spinal cord injuries or amputations and other physical or mental trauma. Services typically include:

  • Individualized treatment programmes to improve one's ability to perform daily activities
  • Comprehensive home and job site evaluations with adaptation recommendations
  • Performance skills assessments and treatment
  • Adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training
  • Training and guidance to family members, teachers and caregivers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Useful CXC CSEC courses are English, Mathematics, Biology and other sciences.
  • CXC CAPE subjects in sciences will be an asset.
  • Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy (or Bachelor's from the UK) from a programme approved by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy.
  • 1000 hours of supervised clinical internships
  • Board certification examinations
