Port of Spain, October 3, 2024: The Ministry of Health was recently verified as an official website for reliable vaccine safety information from the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Vaccine Safety Net (VSN) expansion project, making Trinidad and Tobago the first country in the Caribbean region to attain VSN membership.
The Ministry of Health’s webpage on vaccines and immunization was evaluated by the Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS), established by the WHO to respond promptly, efficiently, and with scientific rigor to vaccine safety issues of potential global importance.
The Vaccine Safety Net is a global network of diverse websites that provide vaccine safety information in various languages. The mission of the VSN is to help internet users find reliable vaccine safety information tailored to their needs. Currently, the VSN has 107 member websites from all 6 WHO regions, from 44 countries, providing vaccine safety information in 38 languages.
This recognition demonstrates the Ministry of Health’s commitment to public health as it seeks to proactively increase confidence in vaccines, and by extension, protect persons from vaccine-preventable diseases.
