Accessing Mental Health Care

If you have been diagnosed with a mental illness or feel you may have a mental health problem that requires treatment, you can access mental health care simply by visiting one of the mental health facilities in your community. Feel free to contact the facility beforehand using the directory below.

Urgent Care

If a person is believed to be in urgent need of treatment for a mental health disorder, they can be taken to the nearest emergency department at a general hospital where they will be assessed and, if needed, treated. When necessary, patients may be admitted for further assessment, care, and management. Inpatient psychiatric treatment is currently available at the following hospitals:

  • San Fernando General Hospital
  • Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex
  • Scarborough General Hospital
  • St. Ann’s Hospital
