Port of Spain, February 26, 2025: TheMinistry of Health, in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), hosted a WHO QualityRights Train the Trainer Workshop, aimed at enhancing mental health care in Trinidad and Tobago.
The workshop provided knowledge to support attitudinal and practical change that is rooted in principles of human rights and recovery. The goal is to improve patient experiences at all mental health services across Trinidad and Tobago.
The in-person training was conducted over a five (5)-day period from February 17 to 21, 2025 at the Brix, Autograph Collection Hotel. In attendance were representatives from the five Regional Health Authorities and the Mental Health Unit of the Ministry of Health. Non-Governmental Organizations, and persons with lived mental health experience were also represented. Delivery of this training will now be rolled out nationally, with planned expansion of participating stakeholders.
The Ministry of Health’s collaboration with PAHO strengthens the efforts to align mental health services with the National Mental Health Policy. This policy promotes the provision of high quality care that is timely, evidence-based, cost-effective and people-centred, in alignment with international best practices.
